ADOPT A RESOLUTION APPOINTING INDIVIDUALS TO SERVE ON THE ARTS AND CULTURE COMMISSION, HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION, SENIOR COMMISSION, AND THE SALES TAX AND UTILITY USERS’ TAX OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE


 

A Resolution has been prepared to confirm the Mayor's appointments of individuals to serve on the Arts and Culture Commission, Human Relations Commission, Senior Commission and the Sales Tax and Utility Users' Tax Oversight Committee.



STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT


There is no strategic plan alignment associated with this action.

BACKGROUND


A recruitment process was initiated for the term expirations and existing vacancies on aforementioned commissions.  Interested parties were asked to submit applications to the City Clerk.  Councilmembers conducted interviews on February 15, 2022 and February 23, 2022.



DISCUSSION

Board, commission, and committee members are appointed by the Mayor with approval of the City Council.  At the request of Mayor Dutra-Vernaci, a resolution has been prepared appointing/reappointing the following individuals:

 

Arts and Culture Commission

  • Appoint Mary Ines to a 4-year term, expiring March 8, 2026
  • Appoint Sudipta Chatterjee to a 4-year term, expiring March 8, 2026

 

Human Relations Commission

  • Appoint Babar Mohammad to a 4-year term, expiring March 8, 2026

 

Senior Commission

  • Appoint Teresita Zurbano as Alternate Commissioner to a 4-year term, expiring March 8, 2026

 

Sales Tax And Utility Users’ Tax Oversight Committee

  • Appoint Seyi Mclelland to the remaining term left by the resignation of Ray Gonzales Jr., expiring March 23, 2023


FISCAL IMPACT

The City provides a stipend of $39 per meeting, up to $78 per month, for each meeting attended by Commissioner or Alternate Commissioner, with exception of the Arts and Culture Commission and the Sales Tax And Utility Users’ Tax Oversight Committee. Funds were appropriated with the adoption of the current budget to support the payment of meeting stipends.



RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends City Council adopt the Resolution as submitted, appointing individuals to serve on the Arts and Culture Commission, Human Relations Commission, Senior Commission and the Sales Tax and Utility Users' Tax Oversight Committee.
