AUTHORIZATION TO ACCEPT AND APPROPRIATE PRIVATE DONATION FROM FREMONT BANK

 This item is brought forward to City Council seeking authorization to accept and appropriate a private donation forwarded to the Union City Police Department for the purpose of promoting police-community engagement activities.  

BACKGROUND


Throughout the year, the Union City Police Department participates in various police-community engagement efforts to: heighten crime and drug prevention; generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts; strengthen police-community partnership; and to foster relationships and build trust with people who live and work in Union City.  Examples of these activities include Coffee with Cops, the annual Poster Contest, National Night Out, and Shop with a Cop.  

DISCUSSION

The Police Department is in receipt of a $6000 donation from Fremont Bank in support of these police-community engagement activities. As a matter of policy, staff is requesting the City Council adopt a resolution accepting the donation for its intended purpose.



FISCAL IMPACT

There are no anticipated impacts to the General Fund. Donated funds will be used to offset expenditures associated with other police-community engagement activities. The donated funds will be placed in the following account:

  1. $6000 - Account Number 1112-00000-24126 (Community Engagement account)


RECOMMENDATION

Police Staff recommends the City Council approve the acceptance and appropriation of these donated monies for the aforementioned purpose.
